Black Forest cake is a delicious dessert that consists of layers of chocolate cake, whipped cream, and cherries. Here’s a basic recipe to guide you through the process of making a Black Forest cake:
Ingredients:
For the cake layers:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
For the filling and decoration:
2 cans (14 ounces each) of pitted cherries, drained
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until well combined. Reduce the speed and gradually add the boiling water while mixing. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
While the cakes are cooling, prepare the whipped cream. In a chilled mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
Once the cakes have cooled completely, you can start assembling the Black Forest cake. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream over the cake, leaving a border around the edges. Arrange some drained cherries on top of the whipped cream.
Place the second cake layer on top of the cherries and repeat the process, spreading whipped cream and adding cherries. You can reserve some whipped cream for decorating the top of the cake.
To decorate, pipe rosettes or swirls of whipped cream around the top edge of the cake. Place a cherry on each rosette and sprinkle chocolate shavings over the top.
Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
That’s it! You’ve successfully made a homemade Black Forest cake. Enjoy this classic dessert with family and friends.
